Old habits die hard because new habits take time and energy to create

In order for us to develop a new habit, often times we must decide which of our unwanted habits we need to eliminate first. On the surface this sounds pretty simple, however, taking the actual steps can be a little complicated. This is because old habits die hard, and new habits take time and energy to create.

If we want to create a new habit for ourselves, we must understand that it will require patience. In fact, depending on the type of habits you want to form, some may call on you to use a lot of patience.

For example, if I want to create a new habit of waking up at 5:00am each day instead of 6:30am, I should acknowledge that this isn’t going to happen “overnight”, it’s going to take some time to adjust.

This is because the act of changing my sleeping habits will entail more than simply going to bed earlier. I’ll need to change up my entire nightly and morning routine. I’d be fooling myself to think that I’ll seamlessly go from getting up at 6:30am to 5:00am...just because that's what I want to do.

Of course there are other factors that go into forming new habits, however, I believe that having patience with ourselves, and at times others is thee most important factor.

What say you?
